- ala maizina (de
aizina = ténèbres, obscurité) même sens que ala mainty.
- ala ngetroka (de
ngetroka = opulent, riche) la forêt la plus exubérante, comme celle de la presqu'île de
masoala.
- alam-bero (de
vero = grandes Graminées) forêt occidentale, où les Poaceae s'installent facilement dès qu'elle se dégrade.
- ala mazaotra (de
mazaotra = dégarni, éclairci) forêt des hautes cimes où le jour pénètre facilement.
- ala vory (de
vory = rassemblé, réuni, ramassé sur lui-même) forêts galeries, rassemblées dans les endroits protégés des feux.
- ala maty (de
maty = étique, mourant) forêt surexploitée, menacée par l'exploitation abusive.
- ala fady (de
fady = sacré, interdit) reliques forestières, protégées de la destruction par les interdits religieux.
